Ember earning her Duchess Title

DateAction
September 10, 2001 I've decided on rules changes, after patch 1.09. I don't have time today to post the update, but for those of you wanting to know, yes, you may use the new "Players X" feature, on any setting between 1 and 8. You may choose one setting, or switch between them. You may want to wait for the full details and commentary, before you act on this, but that's not required. Also coming soon, hero updates and new inductees.
August 3, 2001 Jaffa Tamarin has taken his hero, Skull, the farthest-yet penetration by Ember's Heroes into Hell Difficulty. Duke Skull did not survive to the end, but his adventure was worthy and his deeds shall be remembered.
July 26, 2001 BelTorok is back with an all-new character, and it was quite a ride. Read all about Duchess IceBoltier! Also claiming second dot is Jaffa Tamarin with Duke Skull.
July 13, 2001 There's a new heroine atop the rankings. The first inductee to venture into Hellish territory. She did not prevail, but her deeds of valor are recorded here. Read all about the Duchess Hiawatha.
July 6, 2001 AmaZed, a bow-only Amazon, has been inducted. Zed took on additional Ember-like restrictions (and then some) for Normal difficulty. He had to save and exit a few times, but his challenge level was quite steep, for Normal. Check out his detailed report.
July 5, 2001 Posted updates for Stockbroker and Yenkabolta. Yenkabolta perished in an act of high bravery, and as the first inductee to the Hall, her deeds will indeed be remembered.
More updates coming soon. There is more to report on Symphony and Hiawatha. BelTorok and Jester have played all-new heroes to replace the slain Yrok and slain Tleith (the Teeth Necro who, uh, bit it in NM), and there are some new inductions coming also. Plus... I have word that a variant hero has already completed normal in the Expansion! So the EEE will see its first induction here shortly.
June 28, 2001 The Expansion Pack will be released tomorrow. I have made my decisions regarding the Hall of Heroes as it relates to the Expansion.
The Hall of Heroes and the Expansion Exploits will be kept completely separate. Only characters created in the Expansion will be eligible for Ember's Expansion Exploits. Any heroes from classic Diablo that are converted to the Expansion Pack are thereby retired at that level, and their Hero exploits are concluded (so if you want to keep playing them for the Hall, don't convert them!) Players will be allowed to submit up to three characters for the Expansion Exploits. For more details, refer to the Expansion Exploits rules.
Updated the link for PhanTom's exploits from his page, so that his tale is once again accessible. Tsk tsk to KingOfPain for not keeping me posted about the new location. I had to track it down myself. :)
June 4, 2001 Along with the rest of my site, the Hall of Heroes has been reopened also. Those of you with pending submissions, I will be contacting you through email to renew arrangements for hosting your heroes and their adventures.
May 11, 2001 A hero has been modeled after Ember! No, not firebolt, but just as close: level one skills, original weapon, mostly vitality. All those life points made Normal very easy for him, despite low offense, but without much in Dex or Strength, his Be-Hit chances and ability to hit will give him a serious go in Nightmare. Read all about Count Stockbroker.
May 10, 2001 Two new heroes have been inducted, bringing the total to ten: Hiawatha and EyeBite, the HoH's first Amazon character (the last class to be represented), and a Teeth Necro. These heroes were submitted last week, and their induction dates reflect their acceptance, as opposed to the date I was able to post their reports.
I have also received word that one of our Heroes has perished in Nightmare. I'm waiting on the final report to bring you the glorious but sad details.
May 5, 2001 Count Skull, an aspiring Bone Spirit master, played by my EST comrade Jaffa Tamarin, has been inducted.
May 3, 2001 Countess Symphony, a rather spirited sorceress, has been inducted. This is one of my favorite spot reports yet. Don't miss this one.
May 1, 2001 With the hype now building to a crescendo around the Expansion Pack, I have been giving some thought to how to adapt the Hall of Heroes to D2X. I have made a few decisions. First, there will be separate listings for D2 and D2X chars. Any heroes started in D2 and moved to D2X will thereafter be listed in the D2X section only.
Secondly, I will not only lift the clvl 60 cap, but do away with it entirely, at least until such time as I can determine if a new cap will be appropriate, and if so, where to draw the line.
Thirdly, it will take considerable time and discovery to reach a point at which I can make reasonable judgements about difficulty. Rather than guess and have to rearrange things later, I will sort heroes alphabetically in the D2X listing until such time as I feel comfortable assessing difficulty levels game-wide.
Fourthly, I will allow any build from D2X, so long as the hero under consideration is played start to finish in D2X. Since I have no idea what the effective skills and items will be, and what the uberbuilds and overpowered chars will turn out to look like, I can't reasonably cross options off the list in advance. Also, once inducted, no hero will get the boot, even if it is later found that his build was easier to play than tic tac toe. There is something to be said for going where no one has gone before, even if that turns out to be a hike across the street and back.
Fifthly, I will allow each player one hero per listing: one for standard D2, one for D2X. No, you can't get both on one listing, so don't even ask. If you transfer a hero already listed from D2 to D2X, that will count as your D2X listing. If you then played a new hero in D2X, he would replace your transferred hero once exceeding the old hero's achievements, the same way it works now when you play more than one hero.
Finally, there will be no delay, no warm up period. You may begin playing heroes for the Hall on the day the game arrives, if you so desire. Playing hardcore chars "blind" so to speak, before you know what the heck you are really doing, would present a certain extra edge of challenge, I would say. To those who boldly dare, may you live to write about it. Live or die, your deeds will be remembered.
April 28, 2001 Count Tleithezaxializ, a Teeth necromancer played by Jester, has been inducted. Tleith used only the Teeth skill through normal. Jester plans to add curse use in Nightmare, and has the curse tree already filled out and waiting to go. Jester's first two attempts at this build ended in death while still in Normal. Apparently, the third time was the charm. Read all about it.
April 27, 2001 Count KoPhanTom, a D2 Ironman hero, has been inducted. Played by KingOfPain, Tom is well into Nightmare, but his current listing reflects only his progress through Normal. Check his exploits page for more details and a link to his indepth report.
April 26, 2001 Special Note: please please please take the time to make sure your submission reports are in plain text: no word processor formatting or control codes. I need to be able to plug your report into my html template, slap blockquotes on it, insert a few pictures, and move on. I don't want to have to turn people away for failing to adhere to submission rules, but time constraints may eventually lead to that. Don't be the first to suffer this fate!
April 25, 2001 Count Yrok, a Sacrifice/Holy Freeze paladin was killed in action in the Forgotten Tower by a worthy opponent. He had defeated Diablo at clvl 24, and the Cow King at clvl 25. RIP.
April 20, 2001 Count Azote, a restricted Poison Dagger necromancer played by Adam Nalewajek (Clash), has claimed the top spot for the moment. Clash has said he does not expect to play the character any further, but he wrote a great report and survived some rather tough crises with minimal resources.
April 9, 2001 Count Kriss, a dual-daggers Frenzy/Bash/Double Throw barb played by Robert Razey (DemiSquee), has been inducted. DemiSquee wrote a detailed report of his quest.
March 29, 2001 Countess Yenkabolta, a Charged Bolt sorcie played by Karl Jenkinson (Yenkster), has become the first hero inducted into the Hall. Congratulations! Yenkster wrote a detailed report of the adventure, which you can read under his heroine's exploits.
Note: this amount of detail is not required for all entries, so don't be discouraged from participating by that. Your reports can be long, short, or barely there -- whatever you prefer to write. Now off with you to read about the new Countess! Enjoy!
