A hundred and thirty years ago, Shangian was just a hole in the wall. Now look at it!

All "Hit" resources from modern era wonders are doubled by the Eiffel Tower, too! Big impact. Plus the trade fodder, and did I need that or what?
The Internet can bring you a bunch of free techs, but to get the most out of it, you have to ignore quite a few key techs. You can either ignore the Rocketry branch, or the Plastics branch, and either way it costs you! One costs you early Apollo Program and getting the numerous cheap ship parts out of the way early, while the other costs you any shot at the Space Elevator. Yet if you are the small fry inhabiting the crappiest lands, and going up against the Imperial Dragon who controls about 4x the land that you do, what choice do you have?
I went up the Rocketry Branch, skipping Combustion, Industrialism, and Plastics. Flight can be skipped either way, and that too is dangerous. (What if war comes at you?!?)
Two more Great People spawned for me. One was a Prophet and the other was a THIRD Great Artist out of Calix, where I had built Hermitage to fend off the Chinese culture monster down there by the whales. I still hoped to get to Fusion first -- and that would give me a free Engineer and a SECOND GOLDEN AGE! -- but it wasn't even close.

Mao is becoming positive scary as his captured cities come out of resistance. Holy guacamole!
Mao came to me once, asking politely if I would GIVE HIM Democracy! WTF was I going to do? Say no?![]()
Fortune may favor the bold, but God helps those who help themselves.![]()
There was no way I wanted to get in Mao's way. More like bury my head in the sand and shut my eyes and pray.
