They say hindsight is 20/20. In hindsight, perhaps I should have switched Arbela to barracks and then whipped a vet spear. At the time, I still labored under the delusion that I would be able to maintain control of Arbela.

I had only two barracks. I thought about switching Tarsus to Immortals, but that would have wasted a lot of shields. It was almost done with its temple. So... only Persepolis and Pasargadae were ordered to build immortals.
Um... I'm planning to defeat the entire Babylonian military with two units? Ridiculous, you say? We're going to find out.
Woops, forgot about the spices at Antioch. Persepolis riots.

The Babs killed my vet spear 4-0. Blah. At least the vet warrior killed one regular bowman. Then another bowman marches down and kills one of my two vet spears fortified on the road, 4-1. COME ON! Sometimes the ridiculous swings in Civ3 dice rolls make a mockery of the game.
Yet I'm still dumb enough to whip the temple at Arbela.
Meanwhile, my first warrior reaches the north coast of the continent, where I pop a hut. Of course nothing useful in it.

The Babs march a bowman up to Arbela. I have a vet spear and two regular warriors there. The vet spear loses 4-0! (Rolleyes). Two more regular bowmen move into range. Oh, not good. I whip walls but it's too late, of course. At least the Bab's get a size 1 city they can't whip immediately, and the temple prevents it from being autorazed.

Oh, and one of my regular warriors defeated a bowman 3-0, then took a hp off a second bowman before dying. The third beats my final warrior 3-0 and marches right on into the city, as you can see above. Not much gold left for them to steal, because as you can see, the Ottomans met the English. I bought contact and paid for an embassy and bought a territory map, too. Oh, and the Turks are up to three cities now, and they are expanding toward me this time.
I had better start taking this war more seriously, or I may be in danger of actually losing this game! I save the game and stop for the night. I need to think this through.
