RBCiv Epic TwentyTwo

I started attacking the Aztecs with what troops I had in position. There would be no reinforcements, so this was it.

Madrid was the first target, as I mentioned. Here's the second.

I had hoped to take up to three more after that, but luck went poorly for me and I only managed to capture one more.

I could get one more in a peace deal, so I took it.

Here's a final look at my core.

There was one more thing I learned from this game: outposts do NOT prevent barb camps from popping up. Apparently, they function as noncombat units, so what exactly they are good for, I have no idea!

You can see my "city on foreigh soil", Centralia, in that pic. The walls indicate it's been there for a while.

As you can see, I did manage to pull ahead for the win. Oddly enough, though, the timer malfunctioned and did not give me a Hall of Fame entry for this game, did not give me credit at all. Oh well. I hope that gets fixed in a patch!

This was not my best performance, to say the least, but I enjoyed the game. Ancient warfare remains one of the weaker elements in my strategic arsenal. I'm competent, but a little too cautious. I hate to lose, and I've been burnt by a bad rng too often. My normal fault is not going all-out military, but after a granary and a few settlers, I did that this time, and still didn't get far in the early years. Hmm.

I conquered 7 American cities, 4 English, 5 Spanish, 6 Aztecs. That's 11 on my continent, 11 on other lands. Two civs eliminated. No whipping. And a city founded and defended on foreign landmass. I popped one leader.

So that's 22 + 33 + 40 + 10 + 5 + 1 = 111 points. Well, it would be if I were eligible for scoring.

I think T-hawk's move to early mathematics was the best move I saw from other reports. His weakened America and England also helped. He actually finished with almost 30 turns to spare, very impressive. Despite my spoiler tidbits, I got outplayed here by many in the community. I think it's been since Epic Six that I've finished near the bottom for a given game. I hope those who played enjoyed this one. Now if only that darn patch would come out so we could start on some of the big games waiting in the wings...
