The Aztecs had landed a few tanks in my back lines, but I actually had just enough units on hand to deal with them, so I went nuts some more:

Of course, then it was their turn.
Well. That was humbling. But even if they went around and wiped out ALL my back line cities, they would have to come and take fortress Ulundi in force, to pry the scepter of rule from my cold, dead hands, because I would not surrender it otherwise.
As the Aztecs advanced on the far north cities, I gifted one to the Iroquois in a desperate gambit to draw their forces over here to try to defend it. You see, I didnt even have a single unit in there, and giving it to the Iro's put one of their units inside. Silly idea, though, as it got me nowhere. The Aztecs captured the city. So, once again, I went nuts some more, gleefully picking off and butchering stray Aztec units. Irrelevant? Not to me!
Yes! My swordsmen butchered those battered, confused mechanized infantry! Now time to send my impi out to attack some tanks:
Haha! Oh the humiliation, Aztec modern units ambushed and taken out with men using sticks and wooden shields! If they were fighting fair, we'd be kicking their asses about now.
Then, with just five cities left, three of them undefended with Aztec units in range, the Aztecs were finally willing to talk to me. And guess what! It might have even been because I killed some of their units! HAHAHA! My "useless" resistance pays off, as I concede to them a city they could have walked into anyway, preserving four of my cities.
Of course, I then also had to turn around and declare war on the English, French and Iroquois immediately, to break the MPP's and avoid being pulled right back into war with the Aztecs. However, the Aztecs were in position to annihilate all but Ulundi, while the others were busy with the Aztecs and all far away. I hoped that I could just wait a number of turns, talk to them all, and make peace, then limp along through the rest of the game.
I had survived the war! Me, with single digit infantry, a baker's dozen artillery, lots of conscript rifles, and a very deep stubborn streak. :)
Here's what the aftermath looked like:
See all my elites scattered around? Yes, before I signed the peace deal, I went leader fishing. Got nothing, but I did capture back one of my workers. One. Giving me a grand total of... one worker. Heh.
Here's my surviving units on that turn:
The game's beyond lost at this point. It's hopeless. But I press on anyway. I return to republic when the anarchy ends, and I train a settler and resettle the start tile, giving me a fifth city once again. I train a worker or two, and I use my oil to build some destroyers and a transport or two. I still had some hopes of poaching back one of my lost colony sites, the one that had been razed, but the Aztecs filled it in before I even got to building the settler for it.
Of course, now the Iro's and French are pissed at me, and the Iro carriers start bombing the rest of my railroads. Arrgh. Me with no way to rebuild them, either. I parked units out on my spices to keep them connected, but found out (and this was news to me) that in the new patch, if your units get bombarded down to 1hp, the game will then attack the tile and can pillage it. Wow! I know for sure this wasn't the case in patch 1.21 because I did this in Epic Six and they could not pillage the tile underneath no matter what. Kudos to Firaxis for fixing this, although in this case it caught me by surprise and my spices got pillaged.
I did manage to sink an Iro carrier, though, complete with four bombers, and that was sweet, oh so sweet! I even got an elite ship out of it.
Of course, once I had made peace with Monty, there was only England left for him to target on our continent, and Liz was no match for his awesome might.
So, I've managed to outlive two of the AI's. My bet about whether or not France will live to see the end of days is still in play. My hope (OK, my absurd fantasy) is that the Aztecs will honor the peace deal, leave me alone, and go after the other AI's in earnest.
The fat lady hasn't sung yet! The show must go on.
